Stand With the LGBTQ Community in Virginia!

The Governor needs to hear from you! Tell him not to let opponents of LGBTQ+ equality weaken this bill.

I’m writing to ask you to sign SB868, the Virginia Values Act, in its current form.  This law would modernize existing laws to protect LGBTQ Virginians in employment, housing, access to credit, and public accommodations.  Hardworking families and members of the LGBTQ community don’t have basic protections that will keep them from being discriminated against. The bill would also create new laws to protect people of color, women, veterans, people with disabilities and others in employment and public service. 
 
Without these protections, members of the LGBTQ community are forced into being second class citizens without the basic security they need to thrive. We need to come together to pass the Virginia Values Act to protect people from being discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Over 20 states have non-discrimination laws protecting individuals from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Virginia is not one of them. Businesses want to attract the best and the brightest employees, which is why over 1000 Virginia small businesses support the Virginia Values Act.

Most people believe that it is already illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. But it isn’t. We need to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of protected classes to ensure that LGBTQ people are able to participate fully in their communities and go about their daily lives without the fear of discrimination. For these reasons, I ask you to sign the Virginia Values Act.
